I have always heard this verse and told myself I completely understood what King Solomon was trying to tell us. I have tried to apply this truth to my life many times over and I know that the Lord has seen my whole hearted efforts. However, recently this verse has taken on so many different and deeper understandings in my life (the living, breathing word of God, right?).
When you are bombarded with so many things that are meant as an attack on your understanding, what used to be a simple verse in application becomes a totally different life lesson from our heavenly father. I have lived through some soul shaking moments over the last few weeks but every time there is a new swing on this roller coaster of life, I am reminded constantly that these were the moments Solomon was warning us about. If I (a hormonal, clinically depressed, anxious momma) was to simply react to all the changes going on around me then I would end up committed.
God penned the words in scripture to make sure that I would not lean on my ever shifting understanding. He wants us to totally lean on His sovereign understanding of past, present, and future. He wants our complete trust that the God of the universe has every situation under His total control, if we will let Him.
I want to leave you with the conviction that the same God who spoke the universe into existence, took a moment and formed us from the dirt with His hands. There is never a moment that He is not in control. His love for us is so all consuming that He will never let anything come to pass without it being for the good He has promised.
Rest in the knowledge that we simply have to acknowledge God and his divine work in our lives.
